Baltic Arts '96

The festival took place in and around London in October-November 1996. It was the first all-embracing festival of art and culture from the three Baltic States of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania to take place in Great Britain.

Baltic Arts’96 included music, poetry, films and exhibitions. Estonian music was represented by the Nyyd-Ensemble and the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir. Our theatre offered Epp Pillapart’s Pottery of the Pärnu Drama Theatre and Estonian Games. Wedding by Peeter Jalakas and the ESP Productions.

The Commercial Gallery displayed an exhibition The Regeneration of the Baltic States where Estonia was represented by Peeter Langovits. Jaan Kaplinski read his poetry at the Voice Box. The Times called the whole enterprise ‘a dazzling Baltic festival’.
